About our food bank

An introduction to our project

Bradford Foodbank was originally founded by volunteers from a number of local churches and community groups, including St Luke’s Eccleshill, St Cuthbert’s Wrose, Bolton St James, St Andrew’s Methodist Church Undercliffe, Bolton Methodist Church, Calverley Methodist Church, St Francis RC Church Eccleshill, Church on the Way, and The Shipley Food Project.

The first Trussell Trust foodbank in the district — Bradford Trussell Trust Foodbank — opened in November 2010 and supported all Bradford postcodes. As demand grew, the team made the decision to focus on central Bradford only. In April 2014, the foodbank became Bradford Central Foodbank.

Bradford North Foodbank was created to support the northern areas no longer covered by Bradford Central. We initially registered as Bradford Northeast Foodbank, but after discussions with The Shipley Food Project about including BD18, we expanded our coverage and adopted the name Bradford North Foodbank. We now support people across North Bradford and Aireborough, operating food bank centres in Shipley, Windhill, Idle, Eccleshill, Rawdon and Guiseley so local communities can access help close to home.
