Christmas Appeal 2022 (NOVEMBER)

Many are anxious about how to celebrate Christmas this year and increasing energy plus food costs. Once again we will be giving Christmas Hampers to people identified by our Referral Agencies. Last year we supplied 243 'Christmas Food' parcels.

We anticipate increased demand this year. Can you help?

Please donate whatever you can to help.
Please see the Christmas Hamper Appeal for more information.

Christmas should be a time of celebration, a time for families to be together, eat some good food, give presents (especially to children) and relax.  This is very hard or even impossible for households in financial crisis. Hidden behind closed doors there are families near you with little to look forward to this Christmas: no gifts for the children or significant others, no seasonal Christmas food.

Our Christmas Hampers, given to households nominated by local healthcare or social care professionals, help such households celebrate Christmas.  Last year, our Christmas Appeal brought in just over 2 tonnes of food and considerable cash donations that enabled us to purchase a further 2 tonnes of food. We delivered 243 ‘Christmas Hampers’, 190 of them to families with children aged 16 years or younger. 130 of our hampers were accompanied by one of our 3-day standard food parcels.

As last year, preparation of hampers will occur over a longer period starting in late November,  to ensure continued Covid-19 limitation measures for our volunteers.  This means we will have to purchase some items before the Christmas Food Appeal has concluded.

To help local people celebrate this Christmas

  1. Donate cash to help us purchase hamper food items and good quality bags in which we place the Christmas goodies.  You can donate cash via
    • Cheque or BACS transfer: see our Donate page for details: please put ‘Christmas‘ as the reference for your donation, either on the back of your cheque or when completing the BACS transfer.
    • Charities Aid Foundation: Christmas Hamper 2021 Campaign
  2. Donate Christmas Hamper Food during NOVEMBER, with collection/delivery by Friday December 3rd

Why November?

 a) This gives us time to check we have sufficient donations to fulfill all our Christmas Food orders, purchase any shortfall and prepare the Christmas Food Hampers ready for delivery / collection before Christmas Week.

b) Some Christmas food will be sent to our Foodbank Centres during December, for distribution with our usual 3-day food parcels.

c) Christmas food collected in December and arriving at our warehouse just before Christmas will not reach our Foodbank Centres until the New Year, so please aim to deliver your festive food collection early in December.

Reverse Advent Calendars

If you want to do a Reverse-Advent-Calendar Food/Toiletries Drive during December, then please focus on our standard shopping list items (see the Donate Food page for an up-to-date list of items we need) rather than our Christmas Appeal shopping list.  Thank you.

If you are one of our Referral Agencies and you want to nominate a client for one of our Christmas Hampers

  • We will contact all our Referral Agencies during November giving details of how to nominate your clients.
